Multiword Expressions or MWE are "a sequence of words that acts as a single unit at some level of linguistic analysis, with some of the following features:

  • reduced syntactic and/or semantic transparency;
  • reduced compositionality;
  • more or less frozen status;
  • violation of general syntactic rules;
  • high degree of lexicalisation;
  • high degree of conventionality"[1]
